totally off topic – Northern Jaguar endangered species

Many otaku are animal lovers.  If you’ve read this blog you know that I’m a cat fancier and Amor has cats.  I love the big cats!

The northern jaguar, until recently thought hunted out in the USA and only found in Sonora, Mexico. Recently in Arizona and possibly New Mexico, jaguar have been spotted once again and there is hope that they’re migrating back to the USA.  This 3rd largest cat in the world once ranged over most of the southern USA. They were an important god in some tribes and there are many Native American myths and legends from different tribes (the Comanche have one about a fight between an alligator and jaguar); however, until recently the jaguar haven’t been seen in the USA for many years.

Please support the Northern Jaguar Project.  Their habitat is endangered and the project also helps other endangered species in the corridor, including, but not exclusively: mountain lions, ocelot, bobcat, badgers, and other mammals, several birds, amphibians, reptiles, butterflies and  aquatic invertebrates.

The proposed fence between the USA and Mexico will be severely detrimental to these jaguar and other endanger species that migrate between the two countries.

Another concern for the northern jaguar is that in Santa Rita mountains of Arizona, where they’ve recently been sighted and are being studied, there is a controversial mine project, Rosemont Mine, that would negatively affect the jaguars and other inhabitants of the area but is an environmental concern also.  Feel free to protest that mine.

Arizona Highways has a good article out on Jaguars in the April 2014 issue, your library may carry this magazine as it’s world renown photography magazine.  I’m sure there are other articles on the internet.
